Tazewell Academy
One of the educational landmarks of Claiborne County is "Tazewell Academy" where for more than half a century school was kept. The building was erected and chartered as an Academy about 1843. For many years this was the only institution where students in Claiborne County and surrounding communities could secure any training more advanced than the rural schools. A long list of prominent men received their training in this school and it's contribution to Claiborne County, to Tennessee, and to the Nation, is immeasurable. For several years the building has not been occupied and recently the property was transferred to private ownership. In a little while the old Academy building will be only a memory as it is to be wrecked in the near future.
