College; began career as a railroader, working on grades and trestles; married Julia C. Essary, May 26, 1895; member I. O. O. F. and K. of P., Chancellor Commander of latter; Republican; former Superintendent of Public Instruction, and Circuit Court Clerk of Claiborne, Co., Tenn., and senator from 3rd Senatorial district, 1905-1906; at present he is assistant U.
